WHAT is it? This virtual tool simulates the experience of reading, or browsing, printed materials in an online environment. It's an interactive application intended to emulate real-world testing of printed pages by providing a familiar "page turning" interface.
WHEN should you use it? To create effective advertising and promotional campaigns.
- Ad testing – have respondents click on ads that interest or don't interest them, while tracking the mouse clicks for analysis
- Ad recall – have respondents read the articles that interest them in a simulated magazine (with print ads embedded throughout), then answer post-hoc ad recall questions
- Simulated shopping – simulate the browsing experience of a coupon booklet prior to a simulated shopping trip
- Billboard/distance testing – measure visibility, comprehension and recall.
HOW should you use it? Respondents are instructed to browse a book or magazine as they would in normal life.
- Ability to zoom in/out of a page to aid viewing
- Track the amount of time spent on any given page
- Track mouse movements and clicks
WHY should you use it? The strength of this research tool is that each of its "pages" may be more than just a simple static image – it can be a fully featured application incorporating a sophisticated interface, interactivity and data-collection capabilities.
- Test more factors and gain deeper insight with interactive media
- Complete studies faster
- Expand the geographic range of studies by deploying them online
- Collect more data than traditional methodologies allow
